Arsenal’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby has received a significant boost. The Gunners’ chances of securing the talented French winger have improved following Newcastle’s withdrawal from the race.

Newcastle had earmarked the 23-year-old Diaby as their number-one target last summer. However, their attempts to secure his services faltered as they were unwilling to meet Leverkusen’s £60 million transfer fee.

Recent reports from the Daily Mail indicate that Newcastle’s interest in Diaby has waned, as their new manager Eddie Howe has shifted his focus towards Athletic Club winger Nico Williams. The 20-year-old Spaniard, who boasts a £50 million release clause in his Athletic contract, has now become Howe’s primary target for bolstering his squad ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

With Newcastle’s decision to pursue Williams, Arsenal finds themselves in a stronger position to secure the signing of Diaby. However, their pursuit may face a potential stumbling block in the form of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

PSG is actively seeking a replacement for Lionel Messi, who is set to depart the club at the end of the season. Notably, the French club has been targeting homegrown players, which places Diaby firmly on their radar. This development adds an element of uncertainty to Arsenal’s prospects of acquiring the highly sought-after winger.

Nevertheless, Arsenal remains the frontrunners in the race to sign Diaby during the upcoming summer transfer window. The final decision ultimately lies with the player himself, as he considers his options for the next season.
