The Portugal international is suffering to get into the rhythm since the start of the 2022/23 season, starting only twice in Erik ten Hag’s ten opening matches.

Although making it into the manager’s starting eleven, Cristioao got replaced by Marcus Rashford during the goalless draw against Newcastle United last Sunday.

Speaking via Manchester Evening News, the Italian manager has talked about facing the 37-year-old on Wednesday night.

“Last season, he scored a hat-trick against us and fingers crossed [it won’t happen again],” Conte told reporters. “We are talking about an amazing player, a top player.

“We are talking about a player that has continued to make the difference for the team that he is playing for. Cristiano, with [Lionel] Messi, they have made the story of football in the last ten, 15 years.

“I have great respect for Cristiano for his professionalism.” Conte added.
