It is reported that Alonso has signed a contract with Aston Martin for three years – on the scheme 1 +1 +1. The contract includes options for extension and early termination after each season – options can only take advantage of Alonso. While the Spaniard’s salary at Aston Martin will be $20m per season.

Aston Martin was initially going to renew the contract with Sebastian Vettel, offering the German a new agreement for one season. However, Vettel, after discussing everything with his father, wife and children has made a final decision to end his career in F1 and announced his decision to Lawrence Stroll on Wednesday night.

As a consequence, active negotiations between Alonso and Aston Martin took place during the course of the race weekend in Hungary, from Thursday to Sunday. And the agreement was reached fairly quickly.

Alpin, meanwhile, was confident until the last minute that they would be able to reach an agreement with Alonso. It is reported that the French team offered Alonso a contract of two years and that the terms of this contract have already been more or less agreed upon by both sides. However, Alonso eventually accepted Aston Martin’s offer.
