Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo has emerged as a transfer target for Premier League giants Chelsea and Arsenal. The 21-year-old Ecuador international has impressed for the Seagulls this season, helping them to seventh in the league and earning a spot in the squad for the upcoming FA Cup fourth round tie against Liverpool at the Amex Stadium.

Chelsea are looking to bolster their midfield during the January transfer window, while Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen the central area following an injury to Mohamed Elneny. The Gunners are also in the running for Caicedo’s signature.

Brighton signed Caicedo for £4.5m from Independiente del Valle in 2021 and he is contracted to the club until June 2025, with an option for a further year. The Seagulls are determined to keep hold of their midfield star, who is key to their European qualification ambitions. However, Chelsea have already made an initial offer of £55m, which was rejected by Brighton. The club’s resolve could be tested if Chelsea return with a higher offer in the region of £70m.

Caicedo’s profile has risen significantly after his performances in the Premier League and at the Qatar World Cup, and this week it was announced that he has switched his agents to Futbol Division. It is unclear how this will impact any potential transfer during this window, but it appears that Caicedo and his new representatives are preparing for the future.

It may be difficult for Brighton to keep hold of Caicedo, as the club has a history of selling key players such as Ben White, Yves Bissouma, Marc Cucurella and Leo Trossard. A large bid from Chelsea or Arsenal could see Caicedo leave this window, but a summer move may be more beneficial for the Seagulls.
