Despite his impressive track record, the 32-year-old’s playing time has been restricted since the end of the FIFA World Cup, as manager Pep Guardiola has often employed a 3-2-4-1 formation that requires his right-back to function as a defensive midfielder.
Guardiola has indicated that he believes Walker is ill-suited to the complexity of the role, reserving his talents for matches when Manchester City switches to a flat back-four in and out of possession. According to The Telegraph , AC Milan has expressed a keen interest in Kyle Walker following his loss of status as a regular starter in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
As a result, the Champions League semi-finalists are believed to be considering Walker as an option to provide competition for Davide Calabria in the right-back position.
