Zenit – Kuban. Valeri Karpin’s prediction
It is difficult to say what we will see in this match. The teams come after the two months winter break. At least, we can assume what to expect from Zenit, given the fact we have seen the St. Petersburg’s team in the Champions League. But we know little about Kuban. They’ve had a lot of changes in the roster.
I think that Zenit will play with their best players. They don’t have to save powers, on the contrary, they need to get in good shape before the second leg match with Benfica. But will the main roster be enough for Zenit to win? I don’t know.
I suppose that the match won’t see a lot of goals. In the match against Benfica, we saw that Zenit have some problems in the attack. Kuban have not yet played a single match, but one of their key attacking players Melgarejo has left the team. Plus, usually these teams don’t score a lot at Petrovsky stadium. The field may be not in the best condition, it’s still winter in Russia, after all. So, I don’t see more than two goals here.
