This League Two match is an all-south-west clash between Yeovil Town and Plymouth Argyle at Huish Park.

Yeovil, who were in the Championship not so long ago, have been on a pretty dire run of form since the end of 2016 having won just one league match in their last ten which has seen them slip down to 16th and just seven points ahead of the relegation zone – a gap which could decrease rapidly if their poor results continue.

Goals have certainly been the problem for the Glovers this campaign with their record of just 28 goals scored in 27 league games level with relegation candidates Leyton Orient and Cheltenham Town as the worst in the league. Defensively though they aren’t as bad and their statistic of 34 conceded is not overly embarrassing by any means – in fact, it’s even better than 3rd place Carlisle United. It’s fair to say that it’s that final third which has been troublesome.

Darren Way’s side had been absolutely fantastic at home from late September right through to the beginning of December with no defeats and six wins in eight matches in all competitions. However, since beating MK Dons 4-1 in the EFL Trophy, they have won just one match at Huish Park (EFL Trophy) and picked up just two points from a possible 12 in the league.

Plymouth are currently on a good run and have proved that their recent big FA Cup tie against Premier League title chasers Liverpool was not a distraction as they are currently 2nd in League Two after three victories in their last four league matches.

The Pilgrims showed the rest of England just how solid a defensive unit they are against Liverpool as they conceded just one goal in 180 minutes of football. However, Plymouth have been excellent at the back all season and their record of 28 conceded is the best of the three teams currently occupying the automatic promotion spots in League Two.

Just as you would expect with a promotion contender, Derek Adams’ men have also been good in the final third and, whilst their 43 scored is the worst of the top three teams, it is the third best record in the league.

Argyle’s away form has actually been rather patchy in the last few weeks and they have failed to win back-to-back league matches on the road since the end of November. However, they did win seven matches on the bounce away from Home Park in a run stretching from mid-August to mid-November. This fixture against a Yeovil side who’re definitely wobbling is a good opportunity for the visitors to go on another strong run.

Although Yeovil have the potential to be useful at home, promotion-chasing Plymouth should have too much for them here and will be full of confidence after winning their last two on the spin. 11/8 on a team who’re looking very strong at this level is far too good to miss.
