Wolfsburg v Borussia Dortmund Betting Tip

Wolfsburg play host to Dortmund on match-day four of the new season and, what with these two being two of the bigger teams in the Bundesliga, punters might be expecting a bit of a goal-fest. However, we could see quite the opposite and the goals are fancied to be in short supply at the Volkswagen Arena on Tuesday evening.

It’s certainly true that when Dortmund play at the moment they tend to score plenty of goals. This was clearly illustrated by their back-to-back 6-0 wins over Legia Warsaw in the Champions League and Darmstadt in the Bundesliga, although, it has to be said, both of those sides rolled over somewhat and it’s hard to imagine Wolfsburg, a team who’ve defended well so far this season, doing the same.

Saying Wolfsburg have defended well so far this season probably sells them a little bit short. The Lower Saxony side are yet to concede a goal in the league and are shaping as a team who’re going to be hard to beat this season, especially in front of their own fans. The fact that, during last season, they recorded the 4th lowest rate for goals conceded at home also bodes well for the hosts.

Wolfsburg looking good at the back this season is one positive ahead of this match (more specifically this bet), but the fact that they aren’t exactly firing on all cylinders at the other end is also appealing. There have been less than three goals in each of their league matches so far this season, in fact, there have only been two goals scored in all three. On the other hand, the seemingly free-scoring Dortmund have won 2-1 & 6-0 playing in front of a home crowd, but in their only away match of the campaign so far they were shut out 1-0 by newly promoted Leipzig. This suggests that, against a side who’re willing to defend and keep things tight, maybe Dortmund aren’t quite the powerhouse that some of their results might suggest.

Another positive pointer ahead of this one is the fact that this will be Dortmund’s third match in seven days. It doesn’t matter who you are, three matches in such a short space of time takes its toll, and, even though some key players were rested at the weekend, we could see the visitors perform with less intensity as a result.

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking is both experienced and astute tactically. He’ll know very well that Dortmund are the sort of team who if you give them an inch, they’ll take a mile. With this in mind, the strategy from a Wolfsburg point of view is very much likely to be contain and hit on the break. The host will almost definitely look to keep things tight and frustrate the visitors in this match, particularly in the early parts of the encounter.

All things considered, at an appealing 11/8, ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ is the way to play this one.
