These two sides have been fighting against relegation all season and, although Rotherham have failed miserably in their battle to stay up, Wigan still have a slight chance.

Wigan do of course still have a mathematical chance of survival, however, you cannot help but feel that they are already doomed given the seven point gap between themselves and safety. They have been on a woeful run recently which has seen them lose their last four and this match against already-relegated Rotherham is definitely a must-win if Wigan want to give themselves any chance of playing in the Championship again next season.

The Lactics’ main problem throughout the whole season has been their terrible form in front of goal. They are the lowest scorers in the entire division with a pathetic 32 whilst they have also failed to register on the scoreboard in their last four. Defensively, they are a bit more solid and have the best Goals Against record in the bottom seven. However, when they do concede, their poor attack means they rarely pick up points.

Home form has been woeful for Graham Barrow’s men and they have failed to win any of their last six matches at the DW Stadium, failing to score in their last four. Furthermore, they have lost 53% of their matches on home soil this campaign and failed to score in 68% of them.

If you thought the situation at Wigan was bad, then look at Rotherham. They have already been relegated, despite having six more games to play, and are pretty much a bye for any team they face at the moment. The Millers have lost their last nine on the spin and taken just one point from a possible 42 in their last 14 matches. However, with the pressure now off, perhaps they will suddenly improve in these last half a dozen games.

Rotherham may not have the worst goal-scoring record in the Championship but it is still terrible as they have only found the back of the net once more than Wigan. Their defence has been an absolute shambles and has conceded a very embarrassing 90 in just 40 matches and kept just two clean sheets.

Unsurprisingly, Paul Warne’s men have the worst away record in the division having taken just one point on their travels from a possible 60. Furthermore, they have conceded in every single away match this season.

This is obviously a high-pressure game for Wigan whereas Rotherham have no pressure on them whatsoever. However, despite the fact there is no pressure on them, the Millers look absolutely shot of any confidence at the moment and I doubt they will pull anything special out the bag here. Wigan may have had trouble finding the back of the net this season but even they should be able to score against this pathetic defence. I also expect Wigan’s reasonably good back-line to hold out against this poor Rotherham team. ‘Wigan Athletic to Win to Nil’ is is the bet to go for at.
