An overwhelming task for Vietnam to grab their first point
Vietnam are playing in their first-ever final phase of a World Cup qualification. Ranked at 98 on Fifa’s ranking system, the Golden Star Warriors are considered to be one of the weaker teams in Asia. Hence their advance to the final phase is considered a surprise and a big achievement. Certainly, under South Korean coach Park Hang-seo Vietnam showed much improvement.
However, Vietnam’s national team is finding it hard to register a win in this phase as they face Asia’s best teams. In fact, they lost all four of their games conceding ten goals in the process. Nonetheless, in some matches, Vietnam showed some resilience. To point out they were drawing 2-2 against China until the 95th minute when they conceded a third. Moreover, Chang-Seo saw his team take the lead in two of their five matches despite losing in the end.

Japan searching desperately for three points
Japan are finding themselves in unfamiliar territory in the final and deciding phase of the WC qualifiers. To emphasize, the Blue Samurais are in a very inconsistent form losing and winning every other game in their last four games. As a result, coach Hajime Moriyasu’s team are six points off the pace from the leaders Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Japan will be very eager to come back from Hanoi with three points.
On the positive side, Moriyasu saw his team find his best form as they beat the strong Australian side in the last round. In fact, Japan needed an 85th-minute own goal by the Aussies to salvage three points and stay in touch with the group leaders. Also, it was the first time that Japan score twice in a match since the beginning of the final phase.

Vietnam vs Japan Key Points
- Vietnam’s six of the last seven matches saw over 2.5 goals
- Japan scored in five of their last seven WCQ games
- The last two h2h matches saw under two goals
Vietnam vs Japan Prediction
Vietnam’s last home defeat to Australia was their first in 13 games on home soil. Hence coach Hand-Seo will be sure that his team won’t be easy bait for the Japanese. Moreover, Vietnam had four clean sheets in their last five games at home.
With odds of 1.22 and an 80% chance for a win, Japan are the obvious favorites to win this game. However, the Blue Samurai lost the two matches against Oman and Saudi Arabia in which they were favorites to win. Thus, Moriyasu’s team can be unpredictable.
To summarize all the facts and stats about this match, we think Japan are capable of winning this game. Still, we prefer a double chance bet with total goals outcome from Vbet.
