Back where they’re at their best
The Union Berlin boys come into this fixture off the back of a disappointing defeat last time out, losing away to Frankfurt, though they’re now back at home, which is where they’ve been at their best this season.
On their own patch, Urs Fischer’s men have lost just once, and that defeat was against league leaders Bayern, so they can certainly be forgiven for that. A sturdy defence has allowed Friday’s hosts to accrue the fifth-most home points in the division, while they have one of the best defensive records. Excluding their defeat to Bayern, they’ve conceded just two goals at home, keeping four clean sheets.
While Union Berlin offers plenty of resistance at home, the visitors have found life on the road tough this time around. Their form in general is poor, losing two on the bounce, but it is on the road where Leipzig have struggled most.
Die Roten Bullen have one of the worst travelling records in the entire division, picking up just three points away from the comforts of home. Only the already dead and buried Greuther Furth have fewer. Friday’s visitors have zero away wins this term and have lost three out of six. Somewhat strangely, given the attacking talent in their ranks, Leipzig struggles to score goals away from home, notching only three in six, conceding seven at the other end. The early signs certainly aren’t promising.
Union Berlin vs RB Leipzig Predictions
Things aren’t going well for Leipzig, there’s no getting away from that fact, and although they’re not likely to be struggling for long, such is the talent at the disposal of Jesse Marsch, they don’t exactly appeal in the betting here, or rather, they don’t stand out as a viable bet as such short odds.
At the prices, ‘Union Berlin +1 Handicap’ makes lots of sense. We know that the hosts know how to get a result at home and we also know how strong they are defensively, shutting out four of their last five visitors. Add Leipzig’s offensive woes on the road to the mix and odds of 1.95 on either a home win or the draw seem on the generous side.
