This match between two sides chasing European football and have long term ambitions of competing regularly in the Champions League is easily the most mouth-watering of Sunday’s Premier League ties.

Tottenham are currently 2nd in the table after recovering from defeat against top four rivals Liverpool to thrash Stoke City 4-0.

Although Spurs play some attractive football, Mauricio Pochettino is a coach whose primary concern is defence which is shown by their excellent defensive statistics of 12 clean sheets and just 18 goals against – the best record in the Premier League.

As mentioned above, Pochettino’s side are also good going forward as shown by the fact they have found the back of the net 50 times in 26 top flight matches.

Tottenham have one of the best home records in the league winning their last eight on home soil and overall and zero defeats at White Hart Lane. Furthermore, they have scored in every home league game so far this campaign and have kept clean sheets in their last four.

Everton are on a very good run at the moment with no losses in their last nine Premier League games, putting them 7th in the league and just four points off 6th.

The Toffees are particularly frightening going forward with powerhouse striker Romelu Lukaku currently in a rich vein of form. Fortunately for them, they are also very good defensively and have kept two clean sheets in their last two matches and nine overall in the Premier League.

Ronald Koeman’s side have been decent on their travels, especially recently with no losses in their last five, keeping clean sheets in three of those games.

Given Spurs’ defensive record, especially at home, and the fact that neither will want to lose this match, I think we will see quite a cagey game and, therefore, a high-scoring affair doesn’t look likely. ‘Under 2.5 Goals’, at 23/20, is a good bet. After all, less than three goals have been scored in 54% of both Spurs’ home games and Everton away games this season.
