After five matches of this World Cup qualification campaign, just three points separate France and Sweden at the top of Group A. With just the group winners guaranteed a place in Russia next year, top spot is the priority and so this is something of a crunch match; if the Swede’s come out on top, the race is neck-and-neck with four to play but if France get the job done, they’re likely to be home and dry.

In terms of the way this pair have gone about things during these qualifiers, there probably isn’t too much between them and thus calling the winner here is no easy task but goals should certainly be on the cards. The two bets that stand out, since neither have been shy in front of goal in recent times, are ‘Both Teams to Score’ and ‘Over 2.5 Goals’.

When they faced each other in the reverse fixture – a match that saw both teams get on the score-sheet – both Sweden and France proved that they have the necessary tools to score goals, while weaknesses in their back-lines were also exposed. As far as scoring goes, the hosts are coming into this fixture having experienced something of a purple latch in recent times. Janne Andersson’s men notched three away to Portugal on their latest outing while they scored no less than ten goals in their two previous fixtures. During this campaign, Sweden have scored in each of their five matches and have notched ten overall. In conceding just three, you could argue than Andersson’s side, who’re bidding to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 2006, are fairly solid at the back, but they were caught out a number of times by this French side when the pair met early in the group and, as they go in search of a win here, are likely to do so again.

France come into this fixture in similar form, especially when it comes to scoring. The 2016 European Championship runners-up netted five in their recent friendly against Paraguay and, like their hosts on Friday night, have also scored a total of ten goals during this qualifying campaign. With players such as Antoine Griezmann and the highly rated young trio of Ousmane Dembélé, Thomas Lemar and Kylian Mbappe in their ranks, it’s well known that this French side carries a significant threat up top and they’re very much expected to do some damage in this match, just as they did in the reverse fixture. However, the defensive flaws are definitely there, as we also saw in the reverse fixture, and keeping a clean sheet away from home could prove a stretch too far.

With this pair failing to score just once between them in the ten combined fixtures that they’ve played in qualifying so far, coupled with the fact that both found the net against each other back in late 2016, ‘Both Teams to Score’ is well worth a go at 11/10. At the same time, as they’re two attack-minded sides, who’ve seen the net bulge at least three times in seven of their last ten combined, ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ is also hard to resist at odds of 5/4.
