Free scoring table-toppers Spartak welcome low-scoring Ufa to the Otrkitiye Arena, surely there is only one result on the cards here?

Spartak Moscow have had an excellent revival since the arrival of Antonio Conte’s former assistant Massimo Carrera. The Red-Whites have been on a scintillating run which has seen them win five games out of six. Carrera’s side were knocked out of the Russian Cup midweek but I would not read anything into that as they fielded a weakened team away at Khabarovsk, who are based right out towards Vladivostok.

Myaso are amongst the top scorers in the league with 14 (although not top), however, what has really kept them up on their perch is their incredible defensive record. Under previous coach, club legend Dmitri Alenichev, the attacking prowess of the team was never in doubt but it was more a case of outscoring the opposition rather than really putting them to the sword. However, nowadays, with only two goals conceded, Spartak have really tightened up at the back to make themselves into the almost perfect Russian Premier League team.

After falling away from the top of Russian football for the past decade or so, this could finally be the year that Spartak mount a serious title challenge.

With the sale of Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko to oil-rich Manchester City in the summer, Ufa have now lost all of their creativity and are subsequently a worse side than they were last season. The Bashkortostan side are amongst the lowest scorers in the Russian Premier League having notched just three goals in seven matches.

However, one thing you can generally rely on Viktor Goncharenko’s side for is to be solid at the back. If Ufa are to survive this season it will be on their defensive performance rather than having any potency in the final third.

Although they have lost three matches this season, Ufa can still be proud of their defensive record with just the six goals conceded, rivaling a few sides towards the top end of the table such as Krasnodar and the usually defensive reliable sides of Rostov and Terek Grozny. Whether they will be able to cope with the attacking might of Spartak Mosow this weekend is a completely different issue.

The betting on this match is actually relatively simple to work out and there is good value on the obvious markets.

Unfortunately there is no value on the straight ‘Spartak Moscow Win’ but you can get a few profitable variations around this. Firstly I would look at the home side to win without conceding at Evens. Although not the greatest return, you can pretty much guarantee this happening. As previously mentioned, Spartak are imperious in defence whilst Ufa are pretty drab going forward, add the home advantage and Spartak’s goal record into this and you really cannot see how Ufa will threaten this weekend.

A further tip I would go for which involves a Spartak victory is them to win along with ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ at 6/5. You cannot avoid the home win in this match whilst Spartak themselves are likely to score more than two goals, never mind total in the match, so the chance to make profit on this market is irresistible.

Finally I would look at goalscorers. Quincy Promes is undoubtedly the best player in Russia right now and, if you have not seen his goal against FC Orenburg last week, then I would advise you to look it up. The Netherlands international has been courting interest from around Europe and Spartak managing to keep hold of him is the best piece of business they did this summer.

Along with Promes, Jano is also amongst the league’s top goalscorers with four goals in just four matches played so far this. To have that sort of record from midfield is sensational.

With Spartak likely to have numerous chances and find the back of the net a few times, I would certainly look at backing an anytime goalscorer double with both Promes and Jano at 19/5 – incredible odds for two of the division’s leading scorers.
