Although many expected Spartak Moscow to come away with a victory and away goal from the first leg in Cyprus, they could only manage the away goal. However, this still puts them in the box seat for the tie as they know a 0-0 draw would be enough for them.

While a goalless draw would be enough for Dmitri Alenichev’s men, do not expect this to be a low scoring affair. The Red-Whites were the winners from the opening weekend of the Russian Premier League as they dispatched newly-promoted Arsenal Tula 4-0 to put them top of the pile. Alenichev has been known for his expansive style of football and that was certainly the case against Arsenal as they pushed forward wave after wave of attack against the opponents from Tula. I would expect them to attempt a similar style here in order to put their Cypriot opponents to the sword.

AEK Larnaca know that they must score in Moscow in order to have even a slight chance of progression. With this in mind it will be interesting to see how they approach the game, on the front foot and play Spartak at their own game or sit back and counter when the opportunity arises?

Of course there is no value in an inevitable Spartak win but there is a decent return on a high scoring game. With this only being 1-1 on aggregate, Alenichev will pick a strong line up to ensure progression and it would not surprise me if we saw the same XI that thrashed Arsenal Tula.

The market to go for here is number of goals. Spartak to score over 2.5 goals is 11/8 whilst a Spartak win and over 2.5 goals overall at 10/11 gives you a nice safety net if Larnaca to manage to sneak a surprise away goal, although the return is not the greatest.

The Red-Whites started their match against Tula in emphatic fashion with Jano scoring in the opening 6 minutes which led to the Muscovites being 2-0 up at half time. I would expect a similar start here at the Otkrytiye Arena and would again back them to win the second half as well, just like they did on Sunday. Spartak to win both halves is 8/5.
