These two teams are both looking to get promoted to the Championship this season, Southend through the play-offs and Bolton via the automatic spots.

Southend are on a fantastic run at the moment having taken maximum points from their last four games. This means they are 6th in the table, three points ahead of Millwall in 7th whilst they also have a game in hand over Bradford City and Scunthorpe United in fourth and fifth respectively to help secure their play-off spot.

The Shrimpers have been fantastic in both boxes during that aforementioned run of four wins on the bounce with three clean sheets and ten goals scored. However, this is no different from their record from the rest of the season which has seen them score 63 and conceded just 47 in just 40 matches.

Roots Hall has become a fortress for Phil Brown’s side with no losses in their last six, winning four of them. They certainly take an attacking mentality on home turf, as shown by the fact they have scored in their last 17 league home matches and as well as in 95% of league matches at Roots Hall throughout the campaign. However, they do leave themselves a bit exposed at the back having conceded in 80% of overall home matches in the league and just one clean sheet in their last eight matches on home soil.

Bolton are one of League One’s most in form sides at the moment with 18 points taken from their last eight matches. This means they are second in the table and seven points ahead of the lottery play-off places – automatic promotion looks all but certain if they keep this up.

In contrast to Southend, Phil Parkinson’s men focus on keeping it tight at the back to pick up results. Bolton have the best defensive record in League One with just 34 conceded in 40 games and two consecutive clean sheets in their last two matches. Offensively they have not been too great and even failed to score against struggling Cheltenham last time out, however, if they score one or two then they usually end up coming out on top.

The Trotters have been brilliant away from home recently with four straight wins, meaning they have now taken 34 points from their 19 games on their travels – the second-most in the league. Additionally, they have scored an incredible 14 goals in that four-match winning run; although they have also conceded four.

Instead of calling a winner here, backing both teams to score is the better option. We have seen Bolton score plenty away from home in recent weeks whilst Southend score a shed load in both home and away matches alike. 10/11 is a decent price on a selection that really does look nailed on.
