The semi-finals of Wimbledon take place tomorrow where Russian Elena Vesnina will face world number one Serena Williams. And on the face of things it really is hard to look past the six-time Wimbledon champion. Serena’s speed will give her a tremendous advantage as usual as well as her winning mentality.

Last year, at the US Open semi-finals, we saw Serena suffer a dip. So much so that she was even unable to put some balls over the net. However, I think that she has worked on these slip-ups. Again I want to repeat, and I know I have said this many times, but grass is the ideal surface for Serena. She loves the ball to fly and, the faster it flies, the lower the bounce and the better for Williams.

Elena Vesnina has had a good tournament so far but she has not yet fulfilled her potential at Grand Slams. And this isn’t likely to change today. I am afraid that she just doesn’t have enough experience in major competitive matches. Something that certainly isn’t lacking for the 21 time Grand Slam champion.

Vesnina has previously gone far in doubles and even won titles at Grand Slam tournaments, but doubles is a completely different kettle of fish as you are able to rely on your teammate.

I think Williams has too much quality for her opponent here and will come out on top and do it in fewer than 19 games.
