Serena Williams v Annika Beck: Anna Chakvetadze’s betting tip
Annika Bech is a player with strong character: she won a crazy game against Heather Watson, fighting back from three match points down. However, while her spirit/character can’t be denied, Beck is not so tough. She has less physical powers than Serena, although so do most players. Williams will look to, and more importantly can, dominate with aggressive play, especially on returns. Serena played a tough game against Cristina Mchale, facing plenty troubles there, but in true champion style she fought back to win the third set on a tie-break.
I think that this could be a case of Serena being slightly cautious and trying to ensure she gets a solid footing in the game, thus avoiding the need for a comeback once more. In reality Beck shouldn’t be able to match her mighty opponent on grass. Yes, she has nice movement, but still I can’t see her taking on Serena’s shots. Additionally, Beck has a rather weak serve which can be used by Serena on the counter.
All in all Serena is the superior player here and this is likely to be the end of the road for Beck, a player whose strengths shouldn’t worry the American too much. As such things could be wrapped up fairly early and the bet to be on is less than 18 games.
