Scunthorpe v Fleetwood Betting Tips: Rosler’s men can continue their run

Mar 02 2017

Scunthorpe and Fleetwood are two teams who’re seemingly moving in different directions right now. Having set the pace for some time in League One, Scunthorpe’s trajectory of late has been a downward one, while Fleetwood, who’re unbeaten in no less than league 17 matches, are very much on the up.

Considering the way these two have been going, it’s particularly surprising that Scunthorpe are as warm in the early market as they are. At 11/10, the hosts have to be opposed. Backing ‘Fleetwood Draw No Bet’, at odds of 13/8 makes plenty of sense.

Even though they’re away from home, this is the sort of fixture where Fleetwood have thrived. Not only does Uwe Rösler has his team in excellent shape, but, with three clean sheets in their last four matches, they’re one of the most fiercest defensive units in the division right now. Against a Scunthorpe side who’re staring to struggle in games where the opposition comes to frustrate before pouncing on the counter, the visitors are expected to do well.

On the whole, playing at home has yielded positive results for Scunthorpe this season, but, as touched on above, they’re becoming more of an easy target than a team who’re hard to get the better of. In recent weeks both Shrewsbury and AFC Wimbledon have pulled of victories at Glanford Park and The Iron are now without a win in three matches on home soil. On top of this, in conceding no less than seven goals in their last five at home, they’ve started to look far less secure than they once did. It appears as though teams have got wise and are finding ways in which to defuse, and, more harmfully, use Scunthorpe’s attacking game against them.

Given Fleetwood’s record of late, it really is hard to criticise them. The Trawlermen are without a loss now in 17 League One matches and approach this fixture having won each of their last three on the spin. Having dismantled Northampton with a degree of comfort last time out, coupled with the fact that they’ve kept back-to-back clean sheets, the visitors should be high on confidence ahead of this one. If they can continue to defend stoutly, then it really is hard to see them getting beat here.

Having already beaten league leaders Sheffield United away from home, as well as getting the better of fellow play-off candidates Bradford in recent weeks, it would appear as though Fleetwood thrive in these high-pressure matches. On top of this, the visitors come here having failed to score in none of their away matches this season. Consider this in conjunction with the fact that Scunthorpe’s defence has been shaky at best in recent weeks, and it’s easy to see Rosler’s men having a damaging effect in this one.

All in all, Fleetwood are looking far more solid than their opponents here and certainly don’t deserve to be as big in the betting as they are. At 13/8, ‘Fleetwood Draw No Bet’ looks a steal.
