In terms of the international calendar, this is hardly a mouth-watering prospect as two relatively poor sides come head-to-head.

Scotland are currently on a terrible run and have won just one match in their four world cup qualification games, including a lame 1-1 draw against Lithuania. This poor set of results puts them down in 5th in Group F and there are huge question marks over the future of Gordon Strachan.

The Scots do have a relatively decent record in friendlies and, before understandably losing their last two against Italy and France respectively, they had won their previous four. Additionally, the Tartan Army have lost just one friendly match on home soil since November 2008.

Under-pressure Strachan has more or less gone with a tried and tested squad for this match along with a couple of new, exciting call-ups in the form of midfielders Ryan Fraser and Tom Cairney.

Canada have already been knocked out of the CONCACAF qualification process after finish 3rd in Group A of Round 4 back in September 2016. It has just been friendlies for the Canadians since then with wins against Mauritania and Bermuda being offset by losses against more established outfits Morocco and South Korea.

Furthermore, the Canucks have not beaten what you would call an established international side since beating Austria back in February 2006.

Coach Octavio Zambrano was only appointed to the job earlier this month and has gone with a youthful side – eight of the 18-man squad are 24 or under – and perhaps Walsall’s Simeon Jackson, who has been in relatively decent form this season, is the most recognisable name in the squad.

Despite a poor run of form recently, Scotland are the overwhelming favourites and I am backing them to win and score a few goals against a young and inexperienced side with a poor record against the more established nations. ‘Scotland to Score Over 2.5 Goals’ at 21/10 looks the best bet.
