Another of Wednesday’s Champions League qualifiers that is balanced on a knife edge is the fixture between Rijeka and Salzburg. Having drawn 1-1 last week, both teams are still in with a chance of making it through to the next round. Rijeka do hold a narrow advantage as things stand having scored an away-goal last week but that could all change if Salzburg score here, especially if they were to draw first blood.

Both teams were expected to score in this fixture last week and they kindly obliged. Failing to score isn’t exactly a speciality of either side and so it was no surprise at all that both had the required quality to find the net. In all honesty, it’s difficult to see either keeping a clean sheet in this second-leg and thus ‘Both Teams to Score’ is once again the selection. Given the scoring record of both, coupled with the attacking performance of each last week, even odds of 5/6 seem to be somewhat generous and are well worth taking advantage of.

With their away-goal, Rijeka can perhaps afford to approach this one with caution although they’ll know the importance of adding to their tally. What’s more, having hurt Salzburg on their own patch, the Croatian side really ought to fancy their chances of doing so in front of their own fans. Their goal last week was certainly deserved and they could of scored more had their aim when attempting to the put the finishing touches on a couple of neat moves been slightly more accurate. Still, one away-goal is better than none and Matjaž Kek will have been encouraged by the fact that his side looked threatening. Add in to the mix that fact that it’s been 14 months since Rijeka last failed to score at home, a run of no less than 30 matches, and it’s very easy to see the hosts getting on the score-sheet here.

Much like Rijeka at home, Salzburg aren’t often denied on their travels and they too will fancy their chances of scoring in this match. A draw at home wasn’t exactly the ideal result for Marco Rose’s men but, then again, it wasn’t exactly the worse. The visitors are well in this tie and, as a side who pride themselves on scoring goals, should be capable of matching Rijeka’s away-goal at the very least. Not only did they create chances and find a way through against their opponents back-line last week, but Salzburg boast a scoring record away from home that is almost as impressive as Rijeka’s at home. The visitors come into this match having notched at least once in each of their 21 away matches. Certainly not a bad record to have. Interestingly, they’ve also scored at least once in each of their last four away matches in the Champions League, including in the last round of this year’s qualifying campaign.

Based on last week’s evidence, and the fact that neither are often denied in their respective home and away matches, it would be absolutely no surprise at all if both teams were once again able to breach the other’s defence and so ‘Both Teams to Score’ is simply a bet that is too good to miss out on.
