A jam-packed La Liga schedule continues on Friday night as Real Betis host Real Sociedad at Benito Villamarín. Despite their superiority in the league standings, Sociedad haven’t been at their best recently and face another tough test against a Betis side who’ve become hard to overcome on their own patch.

At the prices, the hosts really do catch the eye here. Víctor Sánchez has got his team playing well at home and, as touched on above, they’re certainly not an easy side to overcome. Against a Sociedad team whose performances have left plenty to be desired of late, Betis are well worth backing to come out on top in this one.

Since the arrival of Víctor Sánchez, Los Verdiblancos probably won’t have caught the eye of many, after all they’re not the most attractive of sides, but they’re particularly sturdy in front of their own fans. Having taken the reigns in November 2016, Sánchez has seen his side lose just once in nine home games, and even that was a narrow defeat in the Seville Derby against title challengers Sevilla. During this spell, Betis have won four and drawn four, keeping six clean sheets and conceding just six goals in the process.

Playing on the road has created plenty of problems for the visitors so far this season. Although they’ve been able to flex their muscles against the weaker teams, Sociedad have often struggled when they’re in a real fight – a fight is what they can expect to be in on Friday night, that’s for sure. Their recent record away from home does’t read too badly – there’s no shame in losing to both Barcelona and Real Madrid on the road – but they were far from convincing in beating Espanyol a few weeks back, while calling last Friday’s 1-0 win against Las Palmas lucky would be a major understatement. Following on from that extremely fortuitous victory, it was thought that Eusebio Sacristán’s men would find it hard in their mid-week fixture against Eibar, and, as they drew 2-2 at home, this proved to be the case.

The fact that top-scorer Willian José is unlikely to regain fitness in time for this fixture, alongside the fact that secondary forward Juanmi will be suspended following his dismal last time out, doesn’t bode well for the visitors.

With two key players missing, coupled with a dip in form, this could be the perfect time to face this Sociedad side.

At Benito Villamarín, Betis are no pushovers and it is their defensive solidity that can act as the catalyst for success here. If the hosts can continue to keep things nice and tight, it would be no surprise if they successfully frustrated a visiting team who’re missing two of their most influential attacking players.

Having bounced back from the agony of losing out to their bitter rivals last weekend when taking all three points away at Málaga on Wednesday night, Betis should be in good spirits ahead of this match and, at the prices, are well worth supporting to get the better of a Sociedad side who appear to be on the verge of a rocky patch.
