Relegation candidates Gijón travel to take on Betis at Estadio Benito Villamarín on Sunday night for a match that looks as though it could simply create more misery for the visitors.

Although Betis haven’t exactly enjoyed the best season so far, they’ve been decidedly better than their opponents here and have a good chance of bouncing back having lost narrowly against Atlético last weekend.

Ahead of this one, there are two bets that standout. These are: ‘Betis to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ and ‘Betis to Score Over 1.5 Goals’. The hosts have certainly perked up at home lately, while Gijón continue to concede goals left, right and centre on their travels.

Since taking over the reigns at Betis back in early November, Víctor Sánchez has overseen an upturn in fortunes, especially in front of their own fans. The hosts are currently unbeaten at home under the Spaniard, winning four out of five and keeping four clean sheets in the process. Those five matches at Benito Villamarín have seen Betis score a total of nine goals, while they’ve conceded just three. Sánchez has managed to tighten up things defensively, but has also ensured his side carry a significant attacking threat.

If Betis have impressed at home of late then Gijón have done the exact opposite on the road. The visitors, who’ve recently sacked their manager and hired Rubi as a replacement, are without an away-win all season and this hasn’t looked like changing in recent weeks.

Having conceded 17 goals, the visitors have been all over the place defensively, while their paltry total of six goals scored goes some way to saying all there is to say about their efforts at the other end of the field. Since picking up a point away at fellow strugglers Granada back in late October, Gijón have lost each of their last five on the road, conceding at least twice in four of those.

With Betis looking like a confident side at home in recent matches, it’s hard to see them slipping up here against a visiting team who’ve defended poorly and offered little going forward in their recent away outings. Víctor Sánchez’s men are fancied to continue their good home-form and are well worth backing to do so.
