Rafael Nadal must be cautious of any surprises
The Spaniard is back to business as usual in the French Open on course for his 14th title. Nadal won his first three matches without losing a set. Nadal will face Sinner in the fourth round as he did in last year’s Fench Open in the quarter-final. Nadal is playing at Roland Garros on the back of his wins in Rome and Barcelona.
In his last win against Cameron Norrie, Nadal had 35 winners. Rafa is not serving well with 60% of his first serve and he needs to improve that as he advances to the next rounds. Against Norrie, he won 81% of the points behind his first serve and that will be key in the coming matches for Nadal.
Jannik Sinner looking to upset the all-time favorite
Jannick Sinner is one of three Italian players in the fourth round of the French Open. Berrettini has already qualified to the quarter-finals after Federer pulled out, and there is also Lorenzo Musetti who will play Djokovic. Sinner is the world number 19 and is one of the most improved players on tour this year.
The Italian had a tough time in his first-round match against Frenchman Herbert. Sinner won in five sets and had to save a match point on his way to victory. Jannik must have learned from his two defeats in the prior matches against Nadal and try his best here to come out with a better result.
Key Points
- Nadal is averaging 28.5 games per match
- Nadal is averaging 32 winners per match
- Sinner is averaging 39 games per match
- Sinner has lost three sets so far in the French Open
Rafael Nadal vs Jannik Sinner Prediction
It will take a lot for Sinner to stop Nadal. The young Italian is a very promising player with a bright future but we think he is still not at the level to beat the like of Nadal on clay. The match might be close in games but we don’t think it will take the distance.
We saw in the match between these two in Rome that despite Nadal winning in two sets but Sinner lost with7-5 and 6-4 meaning he could keep up with Nadal but not enough to win the crucial points.
We think Sinner might be able to win a set in this one as Nadal has been broken many times in this tournament. With Sinner’s first serve we think it will be a key aspect in this game.
