With this being a top-of-the-table clash between two of Holland’s biggest clubs, punters and fans alike might be expecting a bit of a classic. However, it is fancied, for a number of reasons, that we could be in for a bit of a let down in that respect and, ultimately, a low-scoring affair looks on the cards.

Feyenoord currently top of the table in Holland on 15 points, while PSV are close behind in second place with 13. Both sides have made pleasing starts to the campaign – scoring 26 and conceding just three between them. It is the latter of those two stats which could help to set up a match of few goals here. OK, you could say that because both teams have scored so many already that they are bound to create enough chances to make this a high-scoring match regardless of whether they are reasonably solid at the back or not. But, the thing to remember is that in this division their is a reasonable disparity between the top three and the rest of the league (just look at last seasons’ table) and thus goal-scoring form against some of the leagues’ inferior teams doesn’t exactly count for much when the top clubs face each other. With this in mind, there could be an element of “cancelling each other out” today and thus the goals might not arrive in the quantity that many (including the bookmakers) expect.

What’s more is the fact that there have been less than three goals in three of PSV’s last five matches, while the exact same can be said about Feyenoord in three of their last five. Additionally, no more than one goal has been scored in each of PSV’s three competitive home matches this season, with just two goals in total being scored. On top of this, while both teams scored plenty of goals throughout the entirety of last season, less than three goals were scored in both of the last two renewals of this fixture.

Furthermore, each of these two had tough matches in Europe during the week – Feyenoord beat Manchester United 1-0, while PSV lost 1-0 to Atlético Madrid – which could mean we see a less high-energy performance than usual.

All things considered, this fixture doesn’t exactly scream goals and thus, at the prices, ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ is certainly a bet worth being on.
