The new year means the return of the Champions League and we can finally get into the thick of the competition in these knockout rounds. One of Tuesday’s matches is arguably the most mouth-watering of all the Champions League fixtures in the next few weeks as Paris Saint-Germain host Barcelona at the Parc des Princes.

PSG are in fantastic form at the moment having won their last four Ligue 1 matches, however, they are still three points off top of the table Monaco. Having said that, if PSG carry on this form, then there’s every chance that they’ll retain their title come the end of the season.

The Parisians European campaign tailed off a bit towards the latter stages of the Group Stage and they could only manage draws against Arsenal and Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets.

Given their stature, it is no surprise that Unai Emery’s side are excellent both in attack and defence with an average of two goals per game in the league and just 18 conceded in 25 Ligue 1 matches so far this campaign.

PSG are sublime at home and have not lost a match in any competition at the Parc des Princes since 20th March 2016. Furthermore, the French champions have scored in 92% of their home matches in the league this season.

However, if there is one team that can more than match PSG in Europe, it is Barcelona who are currently top of the La Liga form table with 20 points from their last eight matches. In their last five league matches, Barca have scored 19 and conceded just once. Impressive stats indeed.

Luis Enrqiue’s side suffered one blip in the Champions League Group Stage against Manchester City back in November but other than that it was plain sailing as they topped the group with ease.

Nobody can argue against the fact that the Catalan side have the best attack in world football and it has certainly been showing itself in La Liga this season with an incredible 61 scored in just 22 games – seven more than rivals Real Madrid.

Defensively though they have been a bit vulnerable and only able to boast the fourth-best goals against record in La Liga so far this campaign with 18 conceded in 22 – still an amazing statistic.

Barca have been by far the best away side in La Liga this season with 27 points taken from 12 games, losing just once. However, recent away match results in the league have read D, W, D, W, so perhaps there are signs of inconsistency there. Having said that, you cannot discount a side who have scored in 100% of their away league matches this season.

Barcelona are obviously the favourites here but, as we saw against Manchester City, there can be upsets. With this in mind, along with Barcelona’s tendency to concede a few this season, ‘Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals’, at 11/10, is the best bet. After all, such a bet has landed in each of the last four meetings between these two at the Parc des Princes.
