Whilst the big leagues have a rest with the international break, it is very much business as usual in League One and this match sees two play-off hopefuls in Port Vale and Fleetwood Town go head-to-head.

Port Vale are currently sitting 11th in the league but have had a poor run in recent matches with no win for over a month in the league and their defence looking incredibly leaky, having conceded 10 goals in just four matches.

Although forwards Anton Forrester and Alex Jones are out, the Staffordshire side are not struggling too much in the final third but you get the feeling that results would be a lot better if those two players were fit. Manager Andy Smith has said he is not willing to risk the duo this weekend so this could possibly spell bad news for Vale.

However, the Valiants do have a good home record and they will take confidence from that. They have lost just once at Vale Park this season and won five matches on the spin at the start of the season. Two successive draws in their two previous matches will be a bit alarming but it must be noted that they have come from behind in both of those matches.

As mentioned on my last Fleetwood Town tip, they have been a victim of fixture congestion in the last week and this match against Port Vale on Saturday will be their third in six days – all of them have been away from home. Whilst many will say that this is a good opportunity to get some momentum, it has been the opposite for Fleetwood with two losses and one draw against non-league Southport in the FA Cup.

The Trawlermen sit one place above Port Vale in 10th and have been plodding along pretty well in recent matches. However, after two consecutive victories in mid-October, since then one win has been sandwiched in between two losses.

If Uwe Rosler’s team want to push into those play-off spots, they need to be more consistent and turn those narrow defeats into at least draws.

Additionally, they will have to improve their away form as they have lost four of their last five matches on the road.

In terms of the betting, the best bet to go for is ‘Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals Total’ as it allows flexibility on the result. Furthermore, this bet would have won in five out of eight Fleetwood away games this season as well as in both of Port Vale’s previous two matches.
