Phillipe Kohlschreiber
The 37-year-old veteran German player will play in the 2021 French Open for the 17th time. Kohlschreiber has a 14-16 win/loss record in Rolland Garros and his best result in Paris is reaching the round of 16 in 2009 and 2013. Last year Kohlschreiber lost in the first round in four sets to Christian Garin.
In the clay season this year, Kohlschreiber has played seven matches and lost four of them. His best result was reaching the quarter-final of the Heilbronn tournament in Germany and losing in three sets to Galan Riveros. This may be the German’s final Rolland Garros appearance and he’ll want to end his 16-year era with at least a win.
Fernando Verdasco
The once world number seven, Fernando Verdasco is at the end of his career and enters the main draw of the French Open in a tough first-round match. The Spaniard has a 4-6 win/loss record against Kohlschreiber and 2-2 on clay. Verdasco has never passed the round of 16 in Roland Garros in seven attempts so far.
It hasn’t been a good season for the Veteran Spaniard losing four of his six matches on clay. He has lost in the first match of four consecutive tournaments this year. Verdasco’s two wins on clay came against players above him in the ranking in Belgrade, Mannarino, and Pouille. He then lost to Alex Molcan of Slovakia the world number 181 in two sets.

- Verdasco has won 44% of the games he played in the last year
- Kohlschreiber has played an average of 9.33 games per set in the last 52 weeks
- Kohlschreiber has won 40.2% of the games he played in the last year
Phillip Kohlschreiber vs Fernando Verdasco Prediction
Two veterans going head-to-head in the first round of the French Open. Kohlschreiber is known for his cool personality on the court as he dictates the groundstrokes with controlled shots.
Verdasco on the other hand is known for his temper and losing his focus on important points. He hasn’t been in good form this year on clay and he is not the strong player as he once was.
We think there will be enough games in this match to make a good profit with the bookies. Some of the matches between these two have been very close. And although the last time they met at the French Open was in 2010, it finished in five sets for Verdasco.
