Panathinaikos v Brondby IF Betting Tip
Both of these teams are among the top dogs in their own domestic leagues but when it comes to European football they leave a lot to be desired.
Whilst still considered one of the giants of Greek football, Panathinaikos have been swept aside by the dominance of Olympiakos in the last few years. Last season they managed to finish in second place but were still an incredible 30 points behind Olympiakos in the standings so who knows how long it will take for them to once again be serious contenders for the Greek Superleague.
In terms of Europe they have also been on a rather poor run in recent years, they have failed to qualify from the Europa League group stage at every attempt since 2009/10 and did not even make it into the tournament last season.
Danish side Brondby were superb in their previous Europa League qualifier against Hertha Berlin and ran out 3-1 winners. Since then they have done very well, securing a draw away at Midtjylland before battering SønderjyskE 4-0 at home. All of this puts Alexander Zorniger’s side second in the Danish Superliga with an unbeaten start.
Former Celtic striker Teemu Pukki has been on fire for Brondby recently, scoring two hat-tricks and a brace in his last three games.
The bookmakers make the Greek side the favourites by a long way but I am not sure why. They have not started their domestic campaign yet so will not possess the same match sharpness that Brondby have. Additionally, the Danes managed to secure a great victory against Hertha who I think are a much better side than Panathinaikos, plus, when you have a striker scoring goals for fun, you will always have a chance.
Brondby to win is a ridiculously good 7/1 with Bet 365 so that is definitely worth a punt. If you are not so confident in that result then you can get Brondby to score at 81/100 – this is a good substitute for the lack of market on individual goalscorers in this match. As previously mentioned, Teemu Pukki is on fire for the Danish side at the moment so it would be wise to back him in any way possible.
A good backup bet which allows Panathinaikos to do well is Both Teams to Score at 69/50. With the Greek side being at home you would expect them to take at least one of their chances.
