The Kassam Stadium is the setting for two teams who’re chasing promotion on Tuesday night as play-off seeking Oxford host automatic contenders Bolton.

Having fought back late in the day to overcome Northampton at the weekend, Bolton managed to cling on to their automatic promotion spot for another week. If they’re to cement their position inside the top two, Phil Parkinson’s men can’t really afford to drop many points, especially with Fleetwood hot on their heels. However, an away match against Oxford is a tough task for any team in this division, as play-off contenders Scunthorpe found out at the weekend.

For one reason or another, a case could probably be made for either side here. With this in mind, the result-neutral bet of ‘Both Teams to Score’ is the way to go. In recent weeks, both Oxford and Bolton have showcased plenty of quality in the final third, but defensive frailties have also been apparent for both.

In front of goal, the hosts have been thriving in recent weeks, scoring in each of their last four and in eight of their last ten League One fixtures. On top of this, Michael Appleton’s side come into this match having secured a pleasing 2-1 victory against 5th place Scunthorpe on Saturday. That result should see the hosts arrive in good spirits, while since Bolton’s recent lack of clean sheets will only add to their confidence.

Although scoring goals has been fairly easy for the home side, keeping them out at the other end is proving to be somewhat difficult with them keeping no clean sheets in their last five. Unsurprisingly, both teams have scored in each of the last four Oxford matches.

When it comes to scoring and conceding, Bolton have found themselves performing in a similar manner of late. The visitors are scoring plenty of goals, although shutting their opposition out certainly isn’t a regular occurrence. Parkinson’s side have scored at least once in each of their last five League One encounters but have kept just one clean sheet during that time. With no less than ten goals to their name in their last three matches, it’s pretty clear that Bolton have what it takes to hurt teams, but going up against an Oxford team who’ve scored plenty of goals themselves this season, especially on their own patch, could be very problematic from a defensive point of view.

The fact that both teams have scored in eight of this pair’s last ten combined bodes well, as does the fact that they’ve kept just one clean sheet between them over that period.

In a fixture where both teams are likely to be giving their all, what with their respective objectives still very much alive, both are expected to have what it takes to score and, therefore, ‘Both Teams to Score’ makes plenty of sense here.
