Novak Djokovic looking sharp in Rome
World number one Novak Djokovic has reached the Quarter-Final of the Rome ATP tour Open after defeating Davidovich Fokina in straight sets. The Serb looked very sharp in all aspects of his game especially his groundstrokes where he patiently dictated them something he has been missing in some of his defeats on clay.
After the disappointment of losing in the third round in his hometown Belgrade, the Serb missed both Barcelona and Madrid tournaments. He looks in good form in Rome but will face a tough test against Tsitsipas whom he has beaten in their last two meetings on clay.
Djokovic hasn’t lost a set in two matches in Rome. The Serb is serving 62% of his first serve and has won 73% of the points behind his first serve. The world number one needs to keep his first serve percentage high as Tsitsipas can be lethal in his returns of the second serve.
Fast improving Stefanos Tsitsipas might cause problems for Novak
Tsitsipas in his turn beat home favorite Berrettini in two sets. It was a close first set with each player holding their serve. The Greek world number five took charge of the first set tie break and won it by 7-3. In the second set, Tsitsipas broke the Italian’s serve twice and cruised to a 6-2 win.
The 22-year-old needs to improve his first serve percentage against one of the best returners in the world. Tsitsipas is on a 60% first serve percentage in his first two matches. The Greek’s strength lies in his hard groundstrokes, especially on the forehand side.
Tsitsipas is on a 29-7 win-loss record this year on all surfaces and 12-2 on clay. Tsitsipas is improving quickly and is turning out to be one of the best players on tour. He has the potential to win a Grand Slam but needs to find some consistency in her matches.
Key Stats
- Tsitsipas’s serve was not broken in his two matches in Rome
- Djokovic’s serve was broken three times in two matches in Rome
- Both Players haven’t lost a set in two matches
- Djokovic leads the H2H on clay 2-0
Novak Djokovic vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction
Both players had good matches in Rome winning comfortably in the two opening rounds. Djokovic is in doubt the best player in the world and the Serb wants to impose himself on clay as he has done on hard and grass courts.
Novak’s double-handed backhand could prove too hard to handle for Tsitsipas against his one-handed left-side groundstroke. But the Greek is a fighter and possesses a killer forehand and moves extremely well on the court defensively.
We predict each player to win a set. If Tsitsipas wants to be the best player, he has to beat the best, and what better chance than beating the world number one.
