This League Two match is a relegation six-pointer as two teams who sit just outside the relegation zone go head-to-head.

Notts County have had a fantastic resurgence since Kevin Nolan’s appointment as manager and their recent loss against Stevenage was their first defeat in five league matches. From looking like they were destined for non-league football next season, the world’s oldest professional football club are now five points clear of the drop-zone.

Nolan initially struggled to get his side keeping clean sheets but, prior to that loss at Stevenage, his side had kept two on the bounce, including in a fantastic away win at promotion hopefuls Plymouth Argyle. Although they have struggled a bit in the final third in the last few games, County managed to score seven times in three matches as recently as mid-February.

Before Nolan’s arrival, the Magpies had lost five on the bounce at home. However, Nolan has now led them on a five-match unbeaten run at home.

Hartlepool pulled off a shock win at home against Exeter City in the last round of fixtures which pulled them six points clear of the relegation spot. Their 3-1 win now means that in the last two matches they have won by an aggregate score of 7-1.

Prior to these two games, Dave Jones’s side were having a nightmare at the back and, unfortunately for them, they do still have the second-worst defensive record in the league (only Notts County’s is worse). However, the fact they conceded just once in 180 minutes against Crewe and Exeter shows that they are perhaps more organised now.

The incredible seven goals once again demonstrates that they are able to score goals for fun, although we knew this anyway.

Where things take a turn for the worse though is Pool’s away record which is the worst in the league and showing no sign of improving following five straight losses on their travels.

This could be a close affair given the slightly precarious position of both teams, knowing a slip here could cost them. However, given County’s home form and Hartlepool’s dreadful away form, the hosts can make use of their familiar surroundings and come out on top.
