Although Peterborough is now in Cambridgeshire as opposed to Northamptonshire, this fixture is still seen as a local derby and the two have been rivals for a long time.

Northampton have had a terrible start to the season and have lost each of their first four competitive matches. Things need to turn around quickly before they get dragged into an early season relegation battle.

Generally speaking, the Cobblers had a fairly good record in the final third last term and their total of 60 was the joint-second-best of the bottom 13 teams. Having said that, they suffered a bit of a goal drought towards the end of the campaign and, unfortunately for them, they have once again failed to find that goalscoring spark. Northampton have scored just one goal scored in their first four matches. Despite the fact they have lost every game this season, Northampton have not been too bad at the back. Prior to their recent 4-1 defeat to Charlton Athletic, they had only conceded one goal in each of their three matches played.

Justin Edinburgh’s side have only played one home match this season and, despite losing it against Fleetwood Town, they will hope that a return to Sixfields will bring them good fortune. Northampton’s home form was very good towards the end of the last campaign and the fact they lost just two of their final ten home games of the 2016/17 season is arguably what kept them in the division.

In complete contrast to their rivals, Peterborough have had a fantastic opening trio of league games with maximum points taken from each – putting them second in the table.

Peterborough’s attacking style of the last few years is again being demonstrated this season with Grant McCann’s side currently topping the League One scoring charts with eight goals scored. On the other hand, they are still yet to keep a clean sheet in any of their competitive matches so far.

The Posh won their first away game of the season in convincing fashion as they beat Bristol Rovers 4-1. However, in reality, Peterborough’s away form has been poor in the last few months with just one victory in their previous eight away games.

Despite their disappointing away record, I would still back Peterborough here. They have had a fantastic start to the campaign and confidence will be sky high. However, the law of averages dictates that Northampton will get a point at some point this season and they could do so here. With this in mind, I have gone for the relatively safe bet of Peterborough United to Win – Draw No Bet at a profitable 6/5.
