Nice’s reign at the top of Ligue 1 has of course come to an end and it doesn’t look as though the side from the French Riviera will be returning to the top of the pile any time soon, but they’ve enjoyed a fantastic campaign nonetheless and look almost guaranteed, barring an almighty collapse, to fill the third and final Champions League spot.

A win on Sunday would put the hosts another step closer to achieving their goal; however, they’re coming up against a Bordeaux side who’ve been scoring for fun lately and aren’t likely to get this one all their own way – something that has often been the case in recent home matches.

From a betting point of view, there are two selections that catch the eye here and these are: ‘A Goal in Both Halves’ and ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’. Neither of these two have been lacking in the goals department of late and so it’s fancied that each will cause the other plenty of problems on Sunday night.

Under the stewardship of Lucien Favre, Nice have thrived this season, especially at home and particularly from an attacking point of view. In 15 home matches, the hosts have notched no less than 31 goals and have failed to score on just one occasion. ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ has landed in 60% of the Nice’s home fixtures, including in three of their last four.

Although they haven’t been poor at the back overall, the solidity of Lucien Favre’s men has started to wane slightly in recent weeks. Les Aiglons have conceded at least once in each of their last two, three of their last four, four of their last six and in six of their last ten at home. Considering Bordeaux’s recent scoring form – notched 12 in their last five – it’s quite difficult to see Nice keeping the door to their goal shut in this one.

As mentioned above, Bordeaux are currently thriving in forward sense, scoring at least once in each of their last six Ligue 1 fixtures. However, when it comes to defending, things aren’t going quite so well. The visitors are without a clean sheet in their last five and have kept just two in their last ten, conceding a total of 12 goals in the process. Although the fact that they’ve scored 22 goals during that time makes such defensive stats seem fairly insignificant. Unsurprisingly, ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ has landed in four of their last five and in eight of their last ten, while both teams have scored in each of their last five.

Additionally, a goal has been scored in both halves in 12 of Nice’s 15 home matches, as well as eight of Bordeaux’s 14 away fixtures, making the 5/6 quoted seem somewhat overpriced.

All things considered, we’re talking about two teams who boast plenty of pace and attacking talent, not to mention goals in abundance of late, and, quite frankly, it is the forward players of each team who’re expected to flourish in what should be an entertaining, and ultimately, high-scoring match on Sunday evening.
