Bottom-of-the-pile Newport County play host to an improving Morecambe side at Spytty Park on Tuesday night – a match that, like pretty much all of their remaining matches, really is a must win for the struggling hosts.

As things stand, Newport will be playing non-league football next season. The Exiles have found life tough during the current campaign and, as they sit rock-bottom of the table, are now seven points from safety. Even with 15 games left to play, retaining their League Two status seems a big ask.

On the other hand, despite failing to really set this league alight, Morecambe have been nice and steady of late. Since the turn of the year, The Shrimps have turned themselves into a decent side – one who is hard to beat. Jim Bentley’s team have lost just once in their last eight matches and are fancied to go well in this one.

Considering the way things are going for these two right now, with Newport winning just once in the last three months, it’s quite surprising that the hosts are so short in the betting. At the prices, Newport simply have to be opposed here and, at 7/4, ‘Morecambe Draw No Bet’ looks a cracking bet.

The visitors come into this match off the back of a very pleasing display away from home last time out (won 3-1 away at Crawley Town), while they’re unbeaten in their last four on the road, gaining very respectable draws at both league leaders Doncaster and promotion chasing Carlisle in the process. Defensively, Bentley seems to have his team well-drilled with Morecambe conceding just three goals in their last five, keeping two clean sheets. In fact, their total of 20 goals conceded on the road might not seem all that impressive, but only six of the division’s other 23 sides have managed to concede less.

In all honesty, Newport’s results of late are actually better than you might expect from the team propping up the rest of the division, but they’re finding wins very hard to come by. Graham Westley’s men were on a six-match unbeaten run (five draws) until they lost 3-2 at the hands of Cambridge United last weekend. Despite scoring twice, The Exiles continued to showcase their defensive frailties and failed to take anything from the game. Taking that loss into account, and considering they’re now without a win in four matches, the hosts could very easily find life tough against a good-looking Morecambe side on Tuesday night.

In truth, it appears that these two teams are heading in opposite directions right now and, on this basis, the visitors are well and truly overpriced. It’s hard to envisage Newport earning just their second win of the year here, which means backing the away team on the ‘Draw No Bet’ market is the way to go.
