Prediction: The Revenant

I have my doubts about this category, as Inarritu was triumphant last year with Birdman. But this film has made headlines this year. In addition, the movie got the Golden Globe, which makes it 75% probable that the Oscar will also go to The Revenant. As Academy members usually do not reinvent the wheel, and just repeat the results of the Golden Globe.

Best Director

Prediction: Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu – The Revenant

Inarritu got the Oscar in the past year, and the gap was much bigger then. This year, he could go down in history as a director, who got the Oscar two times in a row. The chances of such an outcome in any other year would be extremely small, but this year the situation is quite critical with films. I don’t see any other movies that are so cited, that were so difficult to produce. Besides, Academy members like to give a lot of awards in one hand, and quite possibly, this year will repeat again being Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu with his film, The Revenant.

Best Actor

Prediction: Leonardo DiCaprio – The Revenant

If Leonardo DiCaprio does not get the coveted statuette for the sixth attempt this year, the world will see demonstrations and riots not only from his personal fans; but from other movie buffs as well. In my opinion, DiCaprio has honestly deserved the award, acting in very difficult conditions and playing his character well in this film. Again, there are no nominees that have had a role on such a scale this year and not one of them has contributed so much to modern cinema, either.

Best Actress

Prediction: Brie Larson – Room

Room has been nominated in several categories and is likely to win one of them. Brie Larson had won the Golden Globe for her role in this film. As we know, this gives her a good chance of getting the Oscar. There could have been strong competition from Rooney Mara in Carol, but she’s been nominated as Best Supporting Actress. Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lawrence have already received Oscars. Therefore, I bet on Brie Larson!

Best Supporting Actor

Prediction: Sylvester Stallone – Creed

I’m a longtime fan of Sylvester Stallone and I’m very pleased with his nomination. Exactly 40 years ago, Stallone received the Golden Globe award for the first time and this year he received the Globe for the second time. Although he didn’t get the Oscar for Rocky, I am sure that justice will prevail this year and Sly will be awarded the main prize of the movie business. He deserves it and there is a good chance for that!

Best Supporting Actress

Prediction: Jennifer Jason Leigh – The Hateful Eight

Despite the fact that competition in this category is quite tight, I think that Academy members won’t completely ditch one of the most talented filmmakers of our time, Quentin Tarantino. The Hateful Eight has been nominated only in 2 categories, and in my opinion, this could be a good political decision: Jennifer has deserved this award, and Tarantino will not be hurt by it!

Best Documentary

Prediction: Amy

The film by Evgeny Afineevsky, Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom was nominated for the Oscar, as the theme of the film is extremely relevant given the political events in the world. Despite the fact, that the situation in Ukraine is not as hot as the events are in Syria now. A huge number of spectators in the world still remember the incredible number of stories related to the Maidan events and a war within the Ukraine. In contempt of this, I believe that giving the Oscar for this film means ‘over politicizing the Oscars’ and shifting to political standards. That’s why I think the award will go to Amy.
