Marseille play host to Guingamp at The Stade Vélodrome on Wednesday night as both teams look to bounce back from disappointing 1-0 defeats last time out.

Since being battered by league leaders Monaco a few weeks ago, Marseille have taken a slight downturn in fortunes while their seemingly impeccable defence has certainly become a lot easier to breach. As for Guingamp, the visitors continue to both score and concede plenty of goals, a trend that could easily continue here.

In the betting, it is ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ that appeals most at odds of 11/8. Marseille, despite previously boasting a strong defensive record at home, have started to see more goals go in of late and such a run is fancied to continue when they welcome a Guingamp side who struggle to avoid goals.

It’s true that Marseille do boast the best defensive record at home in this division, but they face a team who’re strong going forward here and have now failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last seven fixtures in all-competitions, scoring in six of those. Guingamp are in a similar position as they’ve now scored and conceded in nine of their last ten (all-competitions).

In addition to the above, Marseille have now been involved in quite a number of high-scoring affairs over the past couple of months – seven of their last ten league fixtures have seen at least three goals go in. Again, Guingamp match up quite nicely with ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ landing in six of their last ten and in four of their last five on the road.

Away from home, Antoine Kombouaré’s men have failed to score in just three of their 12 fixtures, finding the net at least once in four of their last five, and seven of their last ten, on the road. Despite Marseille’s decent defensive record, the visitors should have the tools to do some damage and are expected to register on the score-sheet for the fifth away outing in a row.

Like the visitors, Marseille, even if they’ve loosened defensively, have been finding goals easy to come by of late, scoring at least once in each of their last five at home. During this time, they’ve found the net on 11 occasions. It’s fair to say that the hosts are a more than capable side in the final third, while the recent addition of the mercurial Dimitri Payet should only enhance their quest for goals.

Given the way things have gone for these two of late, a high-scoring match where both find the net definitely doesn’t look out of the question and, therefore, backing ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ makes plenty of sense at 11/8.
