Marseille look to continue their assault on the top four early on Saturday evening a they play host to a struggling Dijon side at the iconic Stade Vélodrome. In truth, given the visitors form on the road, Les Olympiens couldn’t have asked for a better fixture to get back in the swing of things after the international break.

Although this season is so far going far better than the last, Marseille, despite their status as one of France’s biggest, most historical clubs, have failed to really set Ligue 1 alight and will thus be looking to finish with a flourish over the coming months. Having said this, their form on home soil has been particularly impressive and they should be capable of putting in a pleasing display against a Dijon side who’ve found life away from home pretty tough of late. ‘Marseille to Win -1 Handicap’ is the bet that stands out.

In front of a home crowd, Marseille are making a habit of getting the better of the divisions’ lower-placed sides in convincing fashion. Having scored 25 goals at the Stade Vélodrome, Rudi García’s men have looked good going forward, but it is their defence that has impressed most. Apart from matches against Ligue 1’s top two teams (Monaco & PSG), Marseille have conceded just two goals in 13 matches in front of a home crowd, keeping no less than 11 clean sheets in the process. It’s fair to say that teams have really struggled to find a route to goal, while many have been unable to keep the hosts out at the other end – Marseille have failed to score in just three of their 15 home matches so far this season.

Six of the host’s ten wins have been by two or more goals meaning that a handicap bet of -1 has often landed for Marseille at home this season. Against a Dijon side who’ve had little to shout about when playing the big teams this season, another victory by a margin of at least two goals doesn’t look at all unlikely.

In fairness to the visitors they have been finding the net quite a bit of late; however, scoring goals is one thing, but scoring goals against a hosting team who’re Ligue 1’s most prolific side when it comes to shutting out the opposition is another thing altogether. On top of this, Olivier Dall’Oglio’s men continue to concede far too many – something that doesn’t bode well considering that Marseille have been scoring plenty on their own patch.

In recent weeks, the visitors have lost by at least two goals away to both Nantes and Lyon and it really would be no surprise if the same outcome occurs here.

The hosts come into this match having scored seven goals in their last three fixtures, as well as keeping two clean sheets during that time. All in all, this is a big chance for Marseille to move a step closer to the current top four, especially since Lyon have a reasonably tough fixture on Sunday, and they’re fancied to take it by recording a convincing victory.
