Having recovered from being mauling by PSG when beating Lorient last time out, Marseille have been presented with a home fixture against Angers on Friday night – a match that, if they’re serious about challenging for the fourth and final European spot, they really ought to be winning, and winning well.

With last weekend’s convincing 4-1 victory away at Lorient under their belt, the hosts are fancied to get the better of this opposition and can do so in good style. At odds of 5/6 and 2/1 respectively, ‘Marseille to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ and ‘Marseille to Win -1 Handicap’ are the two angles of attack.

Other than that disappointing 5-1 loss to PSG in recent weeks, Marseilla have looked in good shape on home turf this season. Rudi García’s men have lost just twice at the Stade Vélodrome, winning nine of their other 12 matches. Having scored 22, although not always blowing teams away, Marseille have scored goals on a regular basis at home, finding the net at least twice on seven occasions. In addition, they’ve looked sharp at the back, conceding just 11 goals (five of which came against PSG) and have kept a league-high ten clean sheets. Given their prolific shut-out rate, the hosts have won by at least two goals (-1 handicap) six times, including in each of their last five victories in front of a home crowd.

Angers are a side in-form right now and they come into this match having won each of their last three on the road; however, their run is very much fancied to come to an end here. Despite recent form, the visitors have returned victorious from just one of their four trips to teams who’re currently residing in the top six, losing the other three, all of which by at least two goals.

Other than recent wins against teams who’re struggling near the foot of the table, playing on the road hasn’t brought much joy for the visitors this season, especially from an attacking point of view. Angers have scored just 11 goals on their travels and have failed to score in exactly 50% of their away fixtures. At the other end, things haven’t been great either with the visitors shipping a total of 23 goals away from home, keeping just one clean sheet.

Marseille were able to flex their attacking muscles against Lorient last time out and should be in good spirits as a result. With players such as Dmitri Payet and Florian Thauvin in their ranks, the hosts have more than enough quality to get the job done here and are fancied to do so in convincing fashion.
