The Premier League weekend kicks-off with a mouth-watering title clash between Manchester City and Chelsea.

City have been on a rather inconsistent run in recent weeks and have failed to notch consecutive wins since the end of October/beginning of November. After such an impressive start to the season it now seems that quite a few teams have started to work Pep Guardiola’s team out and know exactly how to set up against them.

Fortunately for City, they have found a way of winning matches without blitzing teams – which is what they were doing at the start of the season. This has been particularly evident in their last two Premier League matches where The Citizens have managed to scrape 2-1 wins. They probably did not deserve to win their most recent match against Burnley after a spirited display by Sean Dyche’s side, however, what is most important is that they did win. Although these type of results are not as impressive as some of their early season form, these are arguably more important and will stand them in good stead for the rest of the season.

However, home form in the Premier League has certainly been a concern for City in recent weeks with three draws 1-1 from their last three matches. They are currently third in the table but just one point off Saturday’s opponents Chelsea (who top the division) so will believe they can turn things around soon enough.

Chelsea are undoubtedly the form team in the Premier League right now having won seven matches on the bounce – six of those without conceding. To keep themselves at the top of the league, they showed a tremendous amount of character to come back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 in their most recent match against Tottenham. The way things are going, and without the distraction of European football this season, The Blues certainly look like serious title contenders.

Antonio Conte has got his Chelsea side to master the 3-4-3 formation which not only allows a solid defensive core, but also means they have a front-line that can express itself. Wing-backs and former forgotten men Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses are two players who have caught the eye in recent weeks and they are now getting the rewards for being patient.

Going to the Etihad Stadium is undoubtedly a daunting prospect for sides all over the world, but with his side being on such a good run of form, Conte will no doubt think he can pick up a result on Saturday.

In a somewhat surprising move, the bookmakers have made Manchester City the favourites. I cannot get my head around this and can only think they have done so due to home advantage, however, on current form, I would give Chelsea a better chance.

Having said all that, both Guardiola and Conte know that they cannot afford to lose this match if they want to stay in contention for the title and therefore I actually expect quite a cagey game. A draw seems quite a likely result here but I would also add some security in the form of ‘Chelsea Win No Bet’ at a very nice 6/4.

Both of these sides are excellent going forward and are capable of scoring a lot of goals. The bookmakers have therefore offered quite a low price on the ‘Over X Goals Total’ markets. However, again I disagree with the bookies here and, as previously mentioned, expect quite a tight game here with few goals. The price of 6/5 on ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ seems generous given we could see quite a defensive performance from both sides. This flexible bet would have seen you take home a profit in Manchester City’s last three home games as well as in Chelsea’s last three matches on the road.

Last, but by no means least, a correct score of 1-1, at 7/1, is another eye-catcher. Although we are likely to see a cautious display from both sides, it is worth remembering that they have excellent firepower capable of scoring passed any defence. Although many people expect a great match, these big matches are usually incredibly over-hyped and thus a fairly dull 1-1 certainly wouldn’t be a surprise.
