The Dota 2 action is coming thick and fast and there’s no shortage of top calibre tournaments on the horizon. We’re set to preview the Manila Masters which is approaching at the end of this week but for some of the teams that haven’t made it there’s the no small matter of the LootBet Invitational to secure the final spot at the $100,000 Summit 7 which gets underway in June.

The first fixtures get underway later today with Ninjas in Pyjamas facing off against Thug Life and Team Empire playing against mousesports. Below is a look at the two matches and who’s likely to come away with victory in the first round, best of three match-ups.

With the latest game-play patch dropped and StarLadder i-League Invitational shedding light on what’s hot and what’s not in the Dota 2 world, tonight should give further information as to what teams think best fits the new patch. We tipped Vega Squadron to upset Newbee at 3/2 and are looking to continue the form with a couple of picks here.

Ninjas in Pyjamas versus Thug Life

These teams literally matched up yesterday. The match in Wellplay produced a 2-1 victory for Thug Life and thus it would take a brave man to back against them scoring similarly today. Ninjas in Pyjamas have been in dismal form of late. They’ve lost six on the trot and simply put, can’t buy a win at the moment.

Thug Life are a fairly new team in the making but that’s not to say they haven’t looked impressive. With three wins on the bounce, including defeating Ninjas in Pyjamas they’re clearly the form team here.

They’re priced at 10/11 on Bet365 for the series and although it may be a close run affair, there’s no reason that they shouldn’t beat a lacklustre NiP. They’re well worth supporting and should repay punters’ faith.

Team Empire versus mousesports

The Greek team mousesports have experienced quite the fall from grace since netting themselves $500,000 in an astonishing second place finish at the Boston Major back in December.

Although they’re theoretically unbeaten in their last four, they’ve drawn three of their series 1-1 and only have one win to their name. Prior to that they lost 2-0 to Team Liquid, Team Empire and 2-1 to an Alliance squad dogged with roster problems.

Team Empire on the other hand have generally turned in fairly good results, and on the recent head-to-head definitely hold the edge. With mousesports’ offlane player Skylark out yesterday due to illness it’s been unconfirmed as to whether he will compete today and thus Team Empire really do have the clear edge here.

Backing both Team Empire and Thug Life in a double is the way to make today’s action pay nicely.
