When you look at this fixture you can only see one winner and, whilst that may be the case, West Bromwich Albion are fighters and certainly roll over for the hosts.

Last season we saw a bit of a spat between the two managers over long balls in which Tony Pulis came out on top saying “If we hadn’t won with a £200m team I’d be doing my best to divert attention”, before offering his sarcastic apology of “I’m really sorry and apologise now to Liverpool Football Club for playing three more balls over the top than they did.”

Unfortunately this tension between the two coaches has once again come up prior to this match with Jurgen Klopp once again mentioning West Brom’s direct tactics. The German seems like a nice guy but for him to moan about teams’ tactics just because he could not find a way round them is somewhat pathetic.

Liverpool have made an impressive start to the Premier League campaign with many tipping them to be Manchester City’s closest challengers to the crown. Whilst that may seem a little far-fetched given the start that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have made to the season, the Reds should certainly be looking to at least be finishing in the top four this season.

The fact Jurgen Klopp’s have no European football to contend with gives them a huge advantage in the race for the Champions League spots.

The Merseysiders have played some of the most sensational football in the Premier League this season and you’re pretty much guaranteed goals when you watch a match involving Liverpool.

The Reds have been fantastic going forward with 18 goals. The fact that they have managed to do this without usually fielding an out-and-out striker just shows how much Liverpool’s team is built on attack.

Of course, this emphasis on going forward leaves them incredibly open at the back with Liverpool conceding an alarming 10 goals in the league – Saturday’s 12th placed opponents West Brom have conceded fewer.

Anfield had a makeover in the summer and this has made the stadium even more of a fortress than it was before. The Reds have won two games and drawn one at home this season with an aggregate score of 9-2. That drawn game came against historic rivals Manchester United in which they really should have taken all three points given the pressure they were putting on the United goal.

If you are looking to finish towards the top of the league, West Brom at home is a must-win fixture. However, Liverpool do not have a brilliant record against the Albion at Anfield in recent years with the Baggies taking four points from a possible twelve in the last four seasons.

West Brom have done well since the arrival of Belgian Nacer Chadli, who has taken a lot of weight off Salomon Rondon’s shoulders. They are undefeated in their last four and put in a great defensive performance last time out to clinch a draw against high-flying Tottenham Hotspur.

Away form has been relatively good for Tony Pulis’s men with just the one loss at Bournemouth, although they will feel they should have taken all three points away at relegation-threatened Sunderland and Stoke City.

Whilst it is natural to expect Albion to be quite defensive away from home, it is worth pointing out that they have scored in all but one of their away matches this season and their attack should not be underestimated.

Like many sides towards the bottom of the table, the Baggies rely heavily on set pieces and luckily for them have the master of organising those in manager Tony Pulis. West Brom have scored from five set pieces this season (more than any other Premier League side when we take away penalties) and, with Liverpool looking vulnerable at the back, particularly on set pieces, I would not be surprised if the Albion managed to score at Anfield in Saturday’s evening kick-off. With this in mind, ‘Both Teams to Score’ looks a good bet at 23/20.

Although West Brom will be a threat, Liverpool should be coming out on top here given their array of attacking talent. With all of the above in mind, there is value to be found on the markets for this match.

Secondly I would combine ‘Both Teams to Score’ with a Liverpool win at a more-than doubling 21/10, before finally going for an admittedly ambitious  correct score of 3-1 in favour of the home side at 12/1.

As mentioned on several occasions, I the visitors have enough about them to score past this Liverpool side, but I am just not sure their defence will be able to hold out against one of the best attacking sides in the league and therefore 3-1 certainly isn’t an unlikely result here.
