Liverpool v Burnley Betting Tips: Klopp’s men to come through a high-scoring affair

Mar 10 2017

Sunday’s Premier League match sees a somewhat rejuvenated Liverpool host an over-achieving Burnley at Anfield.

Liverpool may have lost to Leicester a couple of weeks back but, cushioned around those games, they achieved excellent victories over top four rivals Tottenham and Arsenal, keeping them in the Champions League spots.

Jurgen Klopp’s men play an entertaining brand of football and it is no surprise that they are the Premier League’s top goalscorers with 58 whilst they have also found the back of the net six times in their last three outings. Defensively though they still have a lot of problems and have only kept one clean sheet in the top flight since the turn of the year. They are also in mid-table in terms of goals conceded – not good enough.

The Reds’ last two victories have come at Anfield, extending their unbeaten run at home to three. Overall, Liverpool have the third best home record in the league with 30 points from 13 matches whilst they have also scored in 92% of their Premier League home matches.

Burnley are having a fantastic season back in the top flight after their promotion from the Championship last season. They may have spent a bit more on players this round but it is still modest spending compared to the rest of the division. Unfortunately though, the Clarets failed to win any of their five matches in February, putting them 12th.

Much of Sean Dyche’s game plan is focused on defending and they have conceded a quite respectable 40 in the top flight so far this campaign – fewer than all but one of the teams below them. Additionally, they have kept clean sheets in nearly a quarter of their matches. Offensively they are not brilliant but have enough about them to cause a threat – as shown by the fact they have got themselves on the score sheet in every single one of their Premier League games since 14th December 2016.

Burnley have been unable to replicate their excellent home form on their travels and they have collected just two points away from Turf Moor all season – the worst away record in the league. However, as mentioned above, they could be a threat against a dodgy Liverpool back-line given the fact they have scored in their last six away games in the league – including against Tottenham, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Liverpool should be winning here given their attacking threat. Having said that, their defence is very weak and Burnley could easily fin the net. ‘Liverpool to Win & Both Teams to Score’ looks an excellent bet at 15/8.
