Two teams who’ve been in decent form in Ligue 1 recently go head-to-head on Friday night as Lille play host to high-flying Nice.

Nice’s superb season did look for a long time as though it might culminate in title glory, but this now looks fairly unlikely with both Monaco and PSG ahead of them in the table. The gap between themselves and top spot is only five points, and, although it’s unlikely that the two big guns will both falter, Nice will want to continue winning in order to be on hand to take advantage of any slip-ups.

Lille are a side who’ve been in reasonable form lately having not lost in four Ligue 1 matches, but they’ve not been great overall, as their rather lowly league position of 13th shows. On the other hand, Nice have been impressive during this campaign, and, having come from behind to beat a very useful Bordeaux outfit last time out, should be confident of getting the better of a Lille side who’ve certainly not been the hardest team to beat on their own patch.

A lot of Nice’s best work has been carried out in front of their own fans; however, their form on the road is very respectable. Unlike the other top-dogs in this division (Monaco/PSG), Lucien Favre’s men haven’t been devastating, but have been both solid and workmanlike when playing away from home. Having conceded just 13 goals, the visitors boast Ligue 1’s best defensive record on their travels and, in losing just twice, have been hard to beat – something that cannot be said for Lille, especially at their own ground.

On their own patch, Lille have been very disappointing during this campaign. With just five wins to their name, Franck Passi’s team currently have the second-worst home record in all of Ligue 1. They’ve kept just three clean sheets in conceding a total of 20 goals – only four teams have let in more at home – and have been fairly lacklustre at the other end with just 17 scored – only four teams have scored less. Just four goals in their last five at home doesn’t exactly bode well, while they’re without a home win in four. Given that their opponents are a team who’re more than capable of nullifying any threat before pouncing at the other end, Lille look up against it.

Although influential attacking players Alassane Pléa and Wylan Cyprien have been out for Nice recently, players such as Mickaël Le Bihan and the pacey Valentin Eysseric have proven to be more than adequate replacements.

All in all, the home team’s lack of bite in the final third could cost them here. Even with a couple of important players out, Nice have proven that they have the depth to cope and are simply fancied to have more about then going forward, not mention a far sturdier looking foundation. At 47/20, the visitors look fairly big and are worth backing to get the job done.
