This Champions League match is balanced on a knife edge with Atletico taking a slender 1-0 lead into the second leg thanks to a controversial penalty in the first.

Craig Shakespeare’s honeymoon period as Leicester manager is certainly over and they have now failed to win in their last three matches in all competitions. However, with the Premier League season nearly over, the majority of Leicester’s focus will now be on European football.

The Foxes had scored 15 and conceded just four in Shakespeare’s first six games in charge but that excellence in both boxes has now gone downhill, particularly at the back with no clean sheets and seven conceded in their last three.

The 2015/16 Premier League champions have long relied on their home form and will be hoping it works wonders for them again here. Leicester, even stretching back to Claudio Ranieri’s time in charge have won their last six matches in all competitions. Furthermore, they have won every European match they have played on home soil, conceding just once.

Atletico recorded a 3-0 win over Osasuna at the weekend to extend their unbeaten run to ten in all competitions and keeping them 3rd in La Liga.

Diego Simeone’s side have been renowned for their defensive solidity in recent times and they are certainly keeping that up at the moment with just one goal conceded in their last five games in all competitions. However, they also have the cutting edge to help them win games and, in fact, they are the third-highest goalscorers in La Liga with 59 goals in 32 matches.

Atleti are very good on their travels and they are unbeaten in all competitions since 12th December 2016. However, away form in the Champions League is a different kettle of fish and Simeone’s men have lost three of their last six away matches in Europe.

Although Leicester are very good at home, I really do think Atletico’s class will show here and they should record another victory against Shakespeare’s men. With their favoured counter-attacking style likely to hold plenty of sway given their 1-0 lead,  ‘Atletico Madrid to Win’ is a bet worth placing.
