Karen Khachanov aiming for a first-ever quarter-final appearance

Karen Khachanov is one of three Russian players in the last 16 of the Wimbledon Grand Slam this year, the other two are Rublev and Medvedev. It’s the first time in three years that Khachanov qualified to the fourth round and it comes after some very impressive tennis on grass by the Russian losing just one set in his three matches so far.

Khachanov’s preparation for Wimbledon wasn’t ideal as he lost two of the three matches he played in Halle and Mallorca. The 24-year-old has the best record of his career on grass with a 15-9 win/loss record. He has matched his best record in Wimbledon by reaching the fourth round and will fancy his chances against Korda whom he has never played before.

Khachanov Key Stats

  • Khachanov played 33 games per match in Wimbledon this year
  • The average points won on the second serve by Khachanov is 60% in Wimbledon
  • Khachanov has hit 50.3 winners per match in Wimbledon
  • Khachanov was broken on average just once per match

Sebastian Korda in his first Wimbledon showing a mature presence

In his first-ever main draw participation in Wimbledon, Sebastian is doing extremely well in progressing to the fourth round. The world number 50 had eliminated two players ranked better than him Alex de Minaur and Daniel Evans who are ranked 15 and 26 respectively in two matches where the American was the underdog and caused reasonable upsets.

Korda seems to enjoy playing on grass as he has a 5-1 win/loss record this year and his statistics are very impressive. The American had 51 breakpoints in his three matches in Wimbledon and won 15 of them. Meanwhile, Korda himself was broken eight times and saved 18 breakpoints showing that he can play well under pressure and important points.

Korda Key Stats

  • Korda has played 38 games per match in Wimbledon this year
  • The average winners of Korda is 56.3 winners in Wimbledon
  • Korda has won 73% of his first-serve points
  • Korda was broken on average 2.7 times per match

Karen Khachanov vs Sebastian Korda Prediction

It is unfamiliar territory for both Khachanov and Korda who are playing in the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time. Both players have a similar style in using their powerful groundstrokes of which they have shot many winners.

Khachanov being the more experienced player, we think he has the advantage over Korda in the crucial points as we may see a close match considering their form in Wimbledon.

This match is expected to be a long one and the bookmakers are backing an over 39.5 games or under 41.5 games with the same odds. Looking at both players’ total games played by match the logical choice would be the under 41.5 games one and we will back that for our prediction.
