John Milman vs Gael Monfils: Prediction and Betting Tips
John Milman hoping to keep his good form
John Milman is an Australian tennis player who has turned pro in 2006. He has won one title in his career in Nur-Sultan in 2020. Milman’s best results have come on the hard courts with a 70-79 win/loss career record. Having said that, the Aussie was in good form on the hardcourt of Washington last week where he reached the quarter-finals.
That result and his appearance in the same round in Munich was Milman’s best result this year. The 32-year-old was up against Ricardes Berankis of Lithuania in the first round of Toronto. It was an easy first set for Milman as he held his serve and wasn’t pressured by the Lithuanian qualifier. However, in the second set, things were tighter as the set went into a tiebreak in which the Aussie needed two match points to end it in his favor.
Milman Key Stats
- Milman has played 22.4 games per match on hard courts this year
- The average number of breakpoints saved by Milman is 59.4%
- The Aussie’s first serve percentage is 60.2%
Gael Monfils in a tricky second-round clash
Having reached world number six as the best ranking of his career, Gael Monfils is one of the most successful French tennis players in recent years. The 34-year-old has ten titles to his name in his career, nine of them on hard courts and one on clay. However, Monfils is having a poor year in terms of results as he couldn’t get past the round of 16 in any tournament he played.
Monfils’s last competitive match was in the Tokyo Olympics where he lost to Ivashka in the first round. The 11th seed was given a bye in the first round at Toronto as he faces John Milman for the first time. Having said that, it needs to be seen whether the Frenchman will be able to get into the competition atmosphere after a long break.
Monfils Key Stats
- Monfils has played on average 33 games per match
- The Frenchman has won 46% of the points on his second serve.
- Gael has won 25% of his breakpoints
John Milman vs Gael Monfils Prediction
Despite being seeded and a much more experienced player than Milman, Gael Monfils is the underdog in this game. In addition, Monfils has been playing poorly all season hasn’t shown any sign of resurgence.
Milman is the player who is on the better form between these two. The Aussie has won three of his last four matches against players who are excelling in the Tour like Opelka and Ymer.
Having said that, we know Monfils is a fighter and he still wants to continue his career. Hence we believe the Frenchman will be ready for this match to make up for his disappointing season so far.
Both players have low first-serve percentages which will pave the way for many service breaks in this match. Vbet is offering odds of 1.72 for over 4.5 breaks.
