Jannik Sinner is one of the most promising young prospects
One of the most exciting young prospects on tour is Jannik Sinner of Italy. The 19-year-old won the Melbourne tournament at the start of the year and then reached the final in Miami. With a 20-8 win-loss record in 2021, the young Italian has climbed the rankings like a rocket and now finds himself among the top 2o best players in the world.
On clay Sinner has won nine matches and lost three. He reached the semi-final in Barcelona after a convincing win over in-form Andrey Rublev in the quarter-final. In the first round in Rome, Sinner ousted Frenchman Ugo Humbert 6-4 6-2 after a convincing performance.
Rafael Nadal finding it difficult to cope with some players
The best player on clay in the history of tennis, Rafael Nadal, the king of clay, has shown some vulnerability in recent weeks. The Spaniard lost in the quarter-final of Monte Carlo Open to Rublev before winning in Barcelona by beating Tsitsipas in the final.
Nadal then lost in the quarter-final in Madrid to eventual winner Zverev. The 34-yer-old will definitely lose his prowess someday and that day may be sooner than he anticipates as so many young players are emerging on the Tour against whom Nadal is having trouble in winning.
Key Stats
- Nadal has won the only match between these two in Rolland Garros last year
- The last nine matches of Sinner ended in two sets
Jannik Sinner vs Rafael Nadal Prediction
Nadal is on a 9-2 win-loss record on clay this year. The Spaniard will do his best to reach his top form before the French Open as he aims to win his record 21st Grand Slam tournament.
The world number three Nadal is not dominating in all his matches as before and the new young players are making it tough for the Spaniard in his matches. We think Sinner is a great player for the future but still lacks the experience to conquer players like Nadal.
We predict Nadal to win in straight sets.
For our secondary prediction, we will back under 5.5 total breaks of serve.
