Italy looking in top form
Ranked 12th in the world, this is Italy’s 13th appearance in the Olympic games since they joined Fiba in 1932. The Azzurri have won two silver medals in the Olympics as their best achievement in 1980 and 2004. Italy have played nine times in the Fiba World Cup and 37 times in the Eurobasket winning the competition twice.
This will be coach Meo Sacchetti’s team’s first appearance in the Olympics since 2004. The Azzurri qualified for this year’s edition after winning their three games in the qualifications which were held earlier this month. Sacchetti’s team beat Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Serbia on the road to Tokyo and the Azzurri seem to be in top form going into the Olympics.

Coach Henrik Rodl’s team are on a seven-match winning streak, they have won the four matches in the qualifying phase beating Brazil, Russia, Croatia, and Mexico. Germany’s best scorer was Moritz Wagner who plays with Orlando Magic with 14.3 points per game. Coach Rodl has a young side with the oldest player aged 32 and that is the captain Robin Benzing.

Italy vs Germany Prediction
Since the end of the qualification games, Italy have bolstered their roster with Danilo Gallinari who plays for the Atlanta Hawks. Coach Sacchetti knows he has a tough task in group B every match being a must-win encounter.
The Germans don’t have a successful history in the Olympics but they are in very good form and have beaten the Italians in a friendly last June by 12 points after some incredible shooting performance making 64% of their shots from mid-range.
It will be a very tactical game with both coaches focusing heavily on their defensive strategies. In tournaments like these where a team plays just three matches to qualify to the next round, stakes are high and so are the tensions which limit the scoring chances.
The bookies are favoring Italy for a clear win with odds of 1.40 at Vbet. The total points market offers a good deal with over 157.5 at 1.78 at Vbet.
