In true German fashion, the young Die Mannschaft have gone about their business with minimal fuss at this tournament so far and are looking like the clear winners of Croup C with just one to play. A point is all that is needed for Stefan Kuntz’s men to top the group, although, with Italy needing to go for it, you certainly wouldn’t bet against the Germans taking all three points.

Having won in somewhat conservative style on match-day one, it appeared as though the Italians would go on and build on what was a good start; however, that good stat has very quickly turned into a bit of a disaster.  Luigi Di Biagio’s men now need to beat a very strong German side in order to stand any chance of going through and, considering that they have to not just win but win by a considerable margin, even three points might not be enough.

If they want to go through, the Italians simply cannot afford to adopt their usual defensive style as they need a win to finish second and a three goal swing with the Germans to finish top. However, with the game likely to be fairly open, only one team stands out as likely goalscorers and that is the Germans. They’ve made light work of scoring goals in Poland so far and are fancied to do so again here. Backing ‘Germany to Score Over 1.5 Goals’, at 5/4, sticks out like a saw thumb ahead of this match.

What’s been really impressive about this young German side at these finals has been the versatility in which they can attack. Their forward line is blessed with both pace and creativity and it appears as though they’re capable of fashioning clear-cut chances both when teams sit back and when allowed to counter. Furthermore, they’ve scored five goals already, scoring at least twice in both matches, without ever really putting their foot down. When the time comes, it’s a good bet that this bunch have at least another gear.

Italy are not usually the sort of side you’d back to come unstuck defensively, but this under-21 group were uncharacteristically shaky against the Czech’s and, as a result, they now have to come forward. With this in mind, they’re likely to be far more open than they’d ideally like and, therefore, it would be no surprise to the see the Germans getting in behind at regular intervals.

An additional bet that catches the eye ahead of this fixture is ‘Serge Gnabry to Score Anytime’. Having starred for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga last season, the 21-year-old has recently earned himself a move to German giants Bayern Munich and it’s not hard to see why. Having scored and caused all sorts of problem against the Czech’s on match-day one, Gnabry was once again a thorn in the side of his opponents last time out as his combination of pace and direct running saw him create numerous openings against Denmark. What’s more, the way in which this game is likely to set up should play right into the hands of the young German, who will operate as one of the wider players in a front three. His pace on the counter could prove decisive – although he’s no stranger to cutting in and scoring when teams sit a little deeper too – and, at 11/5, is well worth supporting to add to his tally.
